Your chance to shape PI’s economic, social landscape
IN THE CITY
by Jim Bennett
The city of Presque Isle, under the direction of the City Council, is engaged in a strategic planning process focusing on identifying the city’s priorities for the next three to five years.
The plan will outline a vision and direction for the future and consider the role that municipal government will assume in realizing the vision.
The Strategic Planning Committee is comprised of 13 members from various organizations throughout the community including: Presque Isle Area Chamber of Commerce, Planning Board, MSAD 1, Downtown Advisory Board, Recreation Board, UMPI, NMCC, Walmart, ACAP, TAMC, two resident-at-large representatives and two Council representatives.
Currently, the Strategic Planning Committee is gathering input from the community through several different methods. The first segment, a brief survey, is available through April 30th on the City’s website: www.presqueisle.govoffice2.com. In addition to the survey, the Strategic Planning Committee is hosting a Community Meeting on Tuesday, April 26th at 6 p.m. The meeting will take place at the William V. Haskell Recreation Center on Main Street. The survey and community meeting are an opportunity for all stakeholders to discuss the City’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, challenges, as well as, dreams for the future.
Input from all community members and stakeholders is of the utmost importance! This will clearly define the city’s path for the future and the requirements of your city’s municipal government. Members of the City Management Team and the Strategic Planning Committee will work diligently throughout this process to ensure that input is thoughtfully documented, reviewed and considered when finalizing our plan.
The Strategic Plan is not “business as usual.” It is meant to focus on precious resources to achieve goals and objectives that will transform Presque Isle’s economic and social landscape. It is our sincere hope that through the collective efforts of everyone in the community, we can design an effective strategic plan. Please join us in creating a bright future for the great city of Presque Isle.
