Paul Elish

BS-PIHS PRINCIPALS AWARD-DCX-SH-12

PRESQUE ISLE — Donna Lisnik, principal at Presque Isle High School, has announced that Paul Elish has been selected to receive the 2011 Principal’s Award.

Sponsored by the Maine Principals’ Association, the award is given in recognition of a high school senior’s academic achievement and citizenship.

Lisnik describes Elish as an outstanding student, distinguishing himself as the paramount school citizen, excelling in the classroom, serving as a class officer all four years, sharing his All-State level musical talent on the alto sax and the piano, and most recently spearheading a successful recycling campaign at PIHS.

“Paul’s interests are extensive. In 2010 he traveled both to Monterey, Calif. to take part in a Critical Issues Forum on Nuclear Proliferation and was a delegate to the Notre Dame Global Issues Seminar,” said Lisnik. “Paul was also selected as a Bezos Scholar and traveled to Colorado to meet with people such as Bill Gates, Sylvia Earle and Justice Sandra Day O’Connor. He is also a National Merit Scholarship competition finalist. In addition to those accomplishments, Paul has lettered in both track and skiing.”

Elish, Lisnik and other award winners and their principals will attend an Honors Luncheon at the Spectacular Event Center in Bangor Saturday, April 2 at 1 p.m.

The Honors Luncheon recognizes these outstanding students with the presentation of an individual plaque and the awarding of five $1,000 scholarships in the names of Horace O. McGowan and Richard W. Tyler, former Maine principals and executive directors of the Association.

The Principal’s Award is presented in more than 130 Maine public and private high schools by member principals of the MPA, the professional association which represents Maine’s school administrators.
