Septic system course offered

PRESQUE ISLE — The Central Aroostook Soil and Water Conservation District will be hosting a 2011 Subsurface Wastewater Disposal Rule Revisions Course for contractors, code enforcement officers (CEO), licensed plumbing inspectors (LPI) and site evaluators in the Edmunds Conference Center at the Northern Maine Community College on May 3 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Registration deadline is April 19.

This course will be presented by Maine’s Department of Health and Human Services Subsurface Wastewater Program staff and will focus on the changes to the Maine Subsurface Wastewater Disposal Rules, CMR 241, which the state adopted earlier this year. The revised rules include a “Key for determining the depth to seasonal groundwater table” and a revised section on wetlands and water bodies which incorporate new setback requirements. Attendees will receive a full electronic copy of the Subsurface Wastewater Disposal Rules, 2011 edition.

Six and one-half training contact hours will be awarded for each workshop attended and will apply towards recertification for CEOs and LPIs, as well as Maine Department of Human Services and Department of Environmental Protection voluntary certification programs for septic system installers and contractors.

The cost for the workshop is $75 (includes training materials, lunch and breaks).

For registration information, contact Central Aroostook Soil and Water Conservation District at 764-4153 ext. 130, or the Joint Environmental Training Coordinating Committee (JETCC) at 253-8020.
