Smart Sam

A tale was told at Rotary Club about Sam Mahan, who is retired and loves to fish. He was sitting in his boat one day and heard a voice say, “Pick me up.” Sam looked around and didn’t see anyone, so thought he was dreaming. He heard the voice say again, “Pick me up.”

He looked in the water and there, floating on the top, was a frog. Sam said, “Are you talking to me?”

The frog said, “Yes, I’m talking to you. Pick me up, then kiss me and I’ll turn into the most beautiful woman you have even seen. I’ll make sure that all your friends are envious and jealous because I’ll be your bride!”

Sam looked at the frog for a short time, reached over, picked it up carefully and placed it in his front pocket.

The frog said, “What, are you nuts? Didn’t you hear what I said? Kiss me and I’ll be your beautiful bride!”

Sam opened his picket, looked at the frog and said, “I already have the most beautiful wife in the world, and at my age, I’d rather have a talking frog!”

Sam is a smart man!

Kindergarten registration

SAD 42 will be having registration for the 3-, 4- and 5-year-old programs for the 2011-12 school year. The registration will be held on Thursday, April 14, at the Fort Street School and is open to 3-, 4- and 5-year-old children of the Mars Hill, Blaine and Bridgewater area.

Pre-school students must be either 3 or 4 years of age on or before Oct. 15. Students who will be 5 years of age on or before Oct. 15 are eligible for kindergarten. Contact Fort Street School, 429-8514 or 429-8515, to schedule an appointment to register your child.

The state of Maine requires: proof of immunizations and birth certificate. (Hospital copies are not acceptable. A copy must be obtained from the municipal office of the town or city where you were living when the child was born.) SAD 42 requires these documents at the time of registration.

Parents registering children for the 3- and 4-year-old programs are asked to bring proof of income to the appointment. If you are not a legal parent, a copy of guardianship papers (probate court) must be completed before registration. Those students currently enrolled in the 4-year-old program do not need to register. If you have any questions, call the school for further details.
