Bragg goes 49-for-50 for foul shooting title
BANGOR — The Maine McDonald’s Senior All-Star Basketball Games were played Saturday at Husson University’s Newman Gymnasium, with several players from the area participating during the festivities.
One of the highlights was a victory by Carmen Bragg in the state foul shooting competition. The Washburn freshman, representing the northern region, drained 49 of her 50 attempts to defeat three other competitors, including John Bapst’s Abby Pine, Lawrence’s Danielle Spaulding and Edward Little’s Frankie Lally.
Bryan James of Lee Academy won the boys’ contest by hitting 48 of 50 from the line. Travis Dyer of Presque Isle also competed and represented the north, while Dirigo’s Josh Turbide and Cape Elizabeth’s Theo Bowe also took part.
The West prevailed over the East in three of the four all-star contests. The lone East victory came in the C-D boys’ game by a score of 103-83. Caleb Kelly of Central Aroostook scored 20 points, while Travis Noyes of Fort Fairfield tallied 10 and Logan McLaughlin of CA netting three for the winners.
In the C-D girls game, won by the West, 105-70, Brooke Beaulieu of Fort Fairfield competed and scored two points.
Jenna Selander of Caribou scored eight points in her East team’s 108-83 loss to the West in the A-B girls’ game, while Travis Dyer of Presque Isle had two points for the East in a 105-83 defeat in the A-B boys’ contest.
