Pelletier to host exhibit at UMFK Blake Library
Artist with ties to Star City having a productive year
FORT KENT — The University of Maine at Fort Kent Blake Library Gallery is hosting an exhibit entitled, “Life’s Been Good” by Lulu Pelletier, local artist and owner of Portraits by Lulu. The exhibit runs through Friday, March 25.

ARTIST LULU PELLETIER will have work such as this on exhibit at UMFK through the month of March.
It has been Pelletier’s lifelong goal to graduate from college with a bachelor degree in fine arts, have her own studio and do commissioned works till she can no longer hold a brush. She attended UMFK for two years before transferring to the University of Maine at Presque Isle to accomplish that goal.
It doesn’t take long after you meet Pelletier to realize that she is animated, talkative and definitely a colorful character. This persona is reflected in her artwork, which also is colorful and speaks loud and clear to the viewers without using words.
Again this year, Pelletier will include in her body of works — portraits of our veterans. This has been one of her favorite subjects over the years, and she will continue to honor this country’s veterans in the future.
Pelletier received the Robert C. Wanbaugh Memorial Art Award from UMPI in 2011. UMPI purchased two of her large veteran portraits, which now are on display in UMPI President Don Zillman’s office. She was portrayed on WAGM- TV and in Aroostook County newspapers announcing the accomplishment. She also was the illustrator for Cathie Pelletier’s new book, “A is for Allagash.” The book is available at Shop ‘N Save, Country Cottage and online at: www.bookmarcs.com/book/marcs/.
Lulu also illustrated the book, “Valley of Courage: Reflections by Breast Cancer Survivors and Their Families,” which was written by St. John Valley cancer survivors. The book is available online at: www.Amazon.com.
Most of her work shown at the UMFK Blake Gallery will be available for sale. Pelletier will not be having a reception but will have business cards available for those who would like to contact her regarding a purchase or questions.

Needless to say, it’s been a productive year for the artist. Pelletier and her husband, Louis, reside in Fort Kent.
