POOR VISIBILITY was blamed for a two-vehicle accident Monday on North Street, when a car operted by Christi Rosado, of Caribou, struck a truck operated by Stephanie Umphrey of Presque Isle. Pictured is PIPD Sgt. Joey Seeley’s SUV with Umphrey’s disabled pickup, pulled into Bradley’s driveway across from the police station. The impact caused extensive damage to the rear axle of the truck.

The Presque Isle Police Department was first notified of the accident around 12:58 p.m. when one of the drivers went to the station to report the crash, which occurred almost directly in front. Sgt. Joey Seeley was assigned and responded.

“Christi Rosado, 27, of Caribou, was attempting to pull out of the Star-Herald lot. Her window, which was broken, was iced up, so she opened her door to make sure there were no vehicles coming,” said Seeley.

Heavy snow was falling in the area at the time of the crash, reducing visibility. A second vehicle — a 2004 Toyota Tundra, operated by Stephanie Umphrey, 38, of Presque Isle — was eastbound on North Street as Rosado attempted to enter North Street from the parking lot.

“Rosado did not see Umphrey, who was traveling east on North Street. Rosado’s 1998 Toyota Camry struck Umphrey’s club-cab pickup in the passenger side,” said Seeley.

Rosado’s car sustained about $1,200, while Umphrey’s truck had axle damage estimated at $3,000, according to Seeley.

“Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts and were not injured. Umphrey’s vehicle was towed from the scene by Cowett’s Towing of Presque Isle,” said Seeley. “Rosado was vehicle was operational and was able to be driven away.”
