Local swimmers solid in Class B state meet

ORONO — Erica Hemphill and Isaac Estey were the standouts for the Presque Isle swim teams at the recent Class B state championship meets held at Wallace Pool on the University of Maine campus.

STATE COMPETITOR — Nathaniel Dewitt of the Wildcat swim team was part of two relay teams placing among the top-16 in Monday’s Class B state swim meet in Orono.
In Saturday’s girls meet, Hemphill placed third in the 50 freestyle with a time of 26.35 seconds. She was .96 seconds behind race winner Chelsey Curran of Mount Desert Island.
Hemphill also placed eighth in the 100 freestyle in 1:00.27 and was part of the 10th-place 200 freestyle relay team (1:59.58), along with Alecia Palmer, Grace Short and Erikka Murley and the 14th-place 200 medley relay team (2:14.3), along with Shae Adler, Short and Palmer.
The 400 freestyle relay team, made up of Palmer, Murley, Adler and Sarah McEachern, placed 15th in 4:39.73.
It was the boys’ turn on Monday and Estey came in fourth in the 100 butterfly with a time of 57.34 seconds. The winning time was posted by Keith Chandler of Ellsworth in 52.86 seconds.
Estey came in ninth in the 100 breaststroke in 1:10.36. He and his 200 freestyle relay teammates Nathaniel Dewitt, Brock Cassidy and Andrew Terpening placed 12th in 1:47.74, while in the 200 medley relay, Estey, along with Stephen Goulet, Terpening and Dewitt, placed 14th in 2:03.2.
Placing 14th in the 400 freestyle relay was the Wildcat team of Alex Hemphill, Cassidy, Goulet and Dewitt in 4:22.24.
