Hill completes Navy basic training

Lance Corporal Ethan P. Hill, a 2008 Presque Isle High School graduate, recently completed training at the Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training, Marine Unit, at Camp Pendleton in California.

His training began March 2010 when he attended boot camp at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot on Parris Island in South Carolina. Hill graduated with Platoon 2036, Echo Company, on May 28, 2010, as the first squad leader for his platoon and achieved the rank of private. He also had the platoon high physical fitness test (PFT) with a score of 291 out of 300, a combat fitness test (CFT) score of 285 out of 300 and earned the title “sharpshooter” with a rifle score of 304 out of 350.

Hill then attended Marine Combat Training at Camp Geiger in North Carolina. After 30 days of training with various weapons and general combat techniques, he successfully graduated on July 18, 2010.

The next three months Hill spent at the Naval Air Station in Pensacola, Fla., receiving specialized aviation mechanical training where he again was the class leader and received a letter of appreciation for his efforts. While stationed in Pensacola, he was promoted to private first class based on time in service and grade.

In November, Hill attended “C” school for Huey and Cobra helicopters at Camp Pendleton, Calif.He graduated Dec. 21, 2010, as a honor graduate with a 95.16 percent average and was meritoriously promoted from private first class to lance corporal.

Hill has received his permanent orders to be an airframe mechanic at HMLA-369 which is part of the Third Marine Air Wing at Camp Pendleton in California. His unit is scheduled for deployment in October of 2011.

Hill is the son of Ken and Shannon Hill of Westfield and Phil and Tami Kilcollins of Fort Fairfield.

Guard promotes Boyce

AUGUSTA — Major General John W. Libby, The Adjutant General, Maine National Guard, has announced the promotion of Bridgewater resident Lewis Boyce III, SPC, Company B,3/172 Infantry (Mountain). Boyce was one of several soldiers that were promoted in December 2010.

NARFE plans Jan. 27 meeting

The National Active and Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) will hold its January meeting on Thursday, Jan. 27, at 11:30 a.m. at the Caribou American Legion. Mike Ayers and Lowell Glidden will discuss IRS tax information after a meatloaf dinner.
