PRESQUE ISLE — The arrival of the New Year brings with it a new season of pageants, and Presque Isle is one of the first communities to begin the search for the next round of queens to represent the city.

“The 2011 Little Miss Presque Isle/Jr. Miss Presque Isle Pageant will be held in March at the Presque Isle Middle School Auditorium. The Jr. Miss Pageant will be held on Friday, March 18, and the Little Miss will be held on Saturday, March 19, beginning at 7 p.m. each evening,” said Claudia Stevens, executive director of the United Way of Aroostook.

Stevens said girls enrolled in the first and second grades who attend SAD 1 are encouraged to enter the Little Miss Pageant. Girls who are in sixth, seventh and eighth grades who attend Presque Isle Middle School are encouraged to enter the Jr. Miss Presque Isle Pageant.

“All girls in these groups are encouraged to run for the titles of Little Miss and Jr. Miss Presque Isle. It is an opportunity for them to develop personal skills as well as have a good time,” said Stevens.

Funds raised from this event will be donated to the United Way of Aroostook to help the agencies that respond to health and human services needs. To obtain an application, students should go to the main office of the school that they attend or get an application at the United Way office. For more information, contact 764-5197.

“The Little Miss/Jr. Miss Presque Isle Pageant will be directed this year by Barbara Halverson of Pancsofar’s Bridal Shop,” said Stevens.

Deadline for application is 4:30 p.m. Fri., Jan. 14.
