Grades 3-4 basketball results

Dec. 10 brought the last set of games for the opening week of basketball. First to hit the hardwood of the day was Arizona and Georgetown.  Arizona jumped out to an early 12-point lead in the first half with Jason Dumais leading the way with eight first-half points, followed by Patrick Lessard’s four points and Austin Broad Pictou adding a bucket.  As for the rest of the game, Georgetown was ice cold in the first half but caught fire in the second half outscoring Arizona 17-4, with Rolen Mortland scoring nine points, Jacob Martin adding six points, Ethan Jackson chipping in four points and Carter Rice and Alex Churchill both netting a basket each. Dumais finished with 12, but his Arizona squad came up short, 23-20.

The second game that day featured Syracuse and Duke. Jonah Hudson led Syracuse’s scoring attack with six points, while Riley Kinney and Damon Underwood both added two points. On the other bench, Duke was looking to bounce back after losing in the season opener. Michael Berube stepped up and took control scoring 13 points in three quarters. Helping Berube in Duke’s first win was Zech Morse running the point with eight points and two assists. Jacob Bonville added a hoop for Duke, who won, 23-10.

The start of the second week of basketball brought a great game with Michigan and Arizona. For Michigan, Erick Tompkins led the way with 10 points, followed by Colby Buckley with six and Caleb Wheaton with a bucket. As for Arizona, Jason Dumais had a game-high 12 points and Mark Graves added six points. This game went into overtime and still ended in an 18-18 tie.

Game two of the day featured North Carolina taking on Georgetown. For North Carolina, William Bridges had a game-high eight points, followed by Ricky Goupille with a basket. On the other bench, Georgetown’s Jacob Martin had three points with Rolen Mortland and Alex Churchill both adding a hoop.  North Carolina won in a close battle 10-7.

Last Tuesday, Syracuse and Arizona squared off in the opener. Jonah Hudson led Syracuse’s scoring frenzy with 5 points, followed by Ifeanyi Sargent and Ryley Kinney with four points each and Jaden MacDonald with a third-quarter bucket. Arizona was missing the league’s top point scorer and was only able to produce three points with Austin Broad Pictou having the only field goal for Arizona and Patrick Lessard making a foul shot. Syracuse won by a score of 15-3.

In the girls’ league for the start of week two, the Irish and Terriers faced off. For the Irish, all players tried to get a hand in offensively with Molly Kingsbury leading the way with seven points,  Julia Good and Rebecca Rider both adding four points and Taylor Guerrette and Emma Postell both adding two points to the mix. The Terriers had a difficult time getting their shots to fall by only scoring four points in the contest with Rebecca Collins and Libby Moreau having a basket each. The Irish won, 19-4.

The two undefeated teams, the Black Bears and the Irish, battled on the hardwood the following game day. The Black Bears’ Savannah Rodriguez, whom is the league’s top scorer, added to her total with 12 points and assisted Anna Robinson, who added a hoop. The Irish struggled in getting the ball to fall and scored just six points with Alana Legassie, Molly Kingsbury and Paige McHatten all tallying a field goal apiece.  The Black Bears stay undefeated by winning 14-6.

In the nightcap, the Huskies and Terriers displayed their talents. The Huskies’ Kamryn Gilmour scored six points thanks to her tenacious defense, while Alexandria Walsh and Claire Hopkins both added baskets for the Huskies. On the other side of the court the Terriers fought hard, but came up just short with Rebecca Collins scoring two points along with Belle Thibeault.
