Be safe during

the holidays and always

IN THE CITY

by Sgt. Laurie Kelly

It is again the time of year for slogging through the snow and slush searching for perfect Christmas trees, bobbles, and presents. It is the time for many parties and celebrations, and there will be many holiday events around the City.

With the growing numbers of cars and pedestrians on our streets, it is also time to remember some traffic etiquette and safety tips.

• Please stay extra vigilant to pedestrian traffic. With heavier traffic and parking, pedestrians may be harder to see as they enter a travel lane or crosswalk from the sidewalk or from parked cars.

• Especially in inclement weather, give yourself a little extra time to arrive at your destination safely. Give yourself and others extra time and space to pull in and out of side roads and parking lots.

• Please do not succumb to road rage situations. If you feel that you have been a victim of someone else’s traffic infraction, please contact the Presque Isle Police Department and let us deal with the issue.

• Please do not incur the burden of a fine for parking infractions such as parking in handicap or fire zones. Even if you have a handicap plate or placard, you may not park in the blue-lined handicap loading zones.

• Please do not drive under the influence or ride with anyone who is under the influence; call for a ride or take a taxi. The monetary, jail time, and personal losses for an OUI offense are high.

Getting to and being with your family is the best present you can give them, please be safe during the holidays and always. The Presque Isle Police Department wishes everyone, Happy Holidays!
