Local softball and baseball weekly scoreboard

The warm weather might have helped to motivate our local athletes on the field, as many of the area teams brought home wins this past week. Ashland, Washburn, Fort Fairfield and Presque Isle teams all won some of their more recent games.
Tuesday, May 8
Ashland hosted baseball and softball games against Southern Aroostook. The boys’ team pulled off a win against Southern Aroostook with a score of 15-7. The softball team fought hard, but couldn’t quite pull it off, with a score of 12-4.
For the boys, Kevin Baker led the team with a double, two singles and three RBIs. Tony Baker hit four singles and had one RBI, while Tyler Cote had one double, two singles, and an RBI. Henry Milligan had two singles and two RBIs.
Whitney Flint tripled and singled for the Lady Hornets.
The Fort Fairfield Tigers traveled to Hodgdon. The boys’ varsity baseball team kept up the pace for Hodgdon, with a tied game until the bottom of the ninth inning. The Tigers stayed strong, but Hodgdon managed to get one run in to pull off the 8-7 win. Cody Closson had a double and a single and Austin Dufour singled twice and had two RBIs for the Tigers.
The girls team lost to Hodgdon with a score of 23-11.
The Washburn Beaver’s varsity baseball team played a doubleheader at home against Greater Houlton Christian Academy. The Beavers swept the competition with a 9-2 win in the first game and a 22-11 score in the second.
To complete the sweep, Matt Connolly had a triple and three singles, three RBIs, and scored four times for Washburn. Trevor Pendexter had three singles and an RBI, Sebastian Viola and Adam Thompson both had two singles and an RBI.
In the girls’ game, Washburn was ahead until the end of the seventh, when Greater Houlton Christian Academy pulled in nine runs to get the 11-5 win. Erica McDougall had three singles and Chelsea McLaughlin doubled and singled.

Wednesday, May 9
Fort Fairfield took on Central Aroostook in Mars Hill, with the Tigers coming out as the victors in both the boys and girls games.
The varsity baseball game was led by Fort Fairfield with the 21-6 win. Ian Towle had two doubles, two singles and three RBIs; Brian Andrews doubled, singled twice and had three RBIs. Josh Booth singled twice and batted in two runners, while Cody Closson had three singles.
The Panthers’ Mitch Folsom had an RBI double. James Richard had a double and Sam Clockedile singled and scored twice.
On the girls side, Fort Fairfield won the game with a score of 17-3. Katelyn Godin had a double and a single with one runner batted in for Fort Fairfield. Brooke Chasse had a double and one RBI and Kellie Osgood was at the mound with nine strike-outs.
For the Lady Panthers, Alex Dane had two singles and Sarah Long had an RBI single.
Presque Isle’s softball and baseball teams played Fort Kent at the Warriors’ home field. The Wildcats took both wins, with the boys at 12-5 and the girls at 9-2.
Wildcat Luke Ireland drove in a three-run home run and also had a double. Logan York also had a double to contribute to the score.
The Lady Wildcats celebrated their victory after Angela Norsworthy led her team with only one walk and 12 strike-outs. Norsworthy also dominated at bat with a double, a single and two RBIs. Melissa McGary helped out with a two-run single; and Tiffany Martin and Keisha Ward both had RBI singles.

Thursday, May 10
Fort Fairfield traveled down to Dyer Brook to take on the Southern Aroostook varsity baseball team. The Tigers kept up a fierce fight, but were unable to get more runs in. Southern Aroostook took the game with an 8-2 win. Ryan Andrews had two singles for Fort Fairfield and Jake Kenneson also added a double.

Saturday, May 12
The Ashland boys varsity baseball team hosted a game against Fort Fairfield. The Hornets took the win, with a final score of 9-2.
Foxcroft came up to visit the Presque Isle Wildcats in doubleheaders for both the baseball and softball teams. For the boys, Foxcroft won the first game, with a score of 15-5, and PI took the second at 11-4. The Lady ‘Cats had a clean sweep, winning both of their games; the final score for the first game was 12-0 and the second ended with a 16-4 win.
