Car club planning fundraiser
CARIBOU – The ’Roostook County Car Club will hold a Race for Hunger event on Saturday, Nov. 20, with proceeds benefiting the Bread of Life soup kitchen.
The event will be held at the old Mementos Hobby Shop race track in Caribou, which can be accessed from the rear entrance of the former Powers Theater.
The idea was generated when the RCCC was invited by the Granite Leisure Time Hobby Store and Raceway to attend a Race for Hunger event in Oakland.
“You basically pay for your race entry fee with non-perishable food items and spectators are also asked to donate non-perishable food items, and all the food is collected and brought to a couple food banks and kitchens in the Waterville area,” said Marcel Bosse, president of the RCCC. “Our normal club race is on that same day and not all members want to travel that far for a race, so my solution is to have a satellite event where we collect food items for one of our own food banks.”
The Nov. 20 races in Caribou begin at 4 p.m. Six classes of races will be held.
“This is the first time we’ve done something like this in our 23 years as a club and we’re looking forward to giving back to the community,” said Bosse, whose 21 club members span Aroostook County from as far north as Fort Kent and as far south at Monticello.
