PI Rotary Club annual auction set to air

PRESQUE ISLE – The 63rd annual Presque Isle Rotary TV/Radio Auction will air live Nov. 30-Dec. 2 from the Northeastland Hotel in downtown Presque Isle. The auction can be viewed or heard on Time Warner Channel 9 and Citadel Radio – Big Country 97.
The 2010 auction will include over 700 items with everything from electronics to artwork to a variety of gift certificates on the auction block.

“I am pleased to share that we have an outstanding line-up of auction items this year,” said auction co-chair Jeff Pangburn. “We offer a special thanks to all our community businesses and individuals this year, as they have stepped up to the plate to make this one of our most well-rounded years for donations.”
More information on auction items is available in auction booklets that will be distributed in local newspapers in mid-November and will also be available for pick-up at area merchants.
This year the Presque Isle Rotary Club will be donating the auction proceeds to an outstanding group of worthy organizations including the Francis Malcolm Science Institute, the Northern Maine Museum of Science, C.A.N.C.E.R., Easton School Department, Northern Maine Veteran’s Cemetery, Mark & Emily Turner Library, and Aroostook Football. The club has also selected Catholic Charities of Maine for this year’s “Special Project.” Funds will be used to repair the roofing on the food storage warehouse. Catholic Charities serves 24 food pantries in Aroostook County, impacting 40,000 people annually. They also partner with other agencies to serve as a distribution hub for orders from the Good Shepherd Food Bank and USDA Commodities.
Auction co-chair Joy Barresi Saucier explained that participation is key to the auction’s success.
“Our goal is to have as many people as possible participate in the auction this year, both from the club and the community,” she said, noting that it takes all 100 Presque Isle Rotary Club members to make the auction run. “More importantly, the participation of the whole community, through the donation and purchase of items, is what allows the auction to raise money to benefit so many worthy causes.”
For over 60 years, the Presque Isle Rotary Club has held an annual auction to raise funds to support various charities and non-profit organizations. Last year, the club raised over $50,000 for different organizations and charitable causes. The club could not successfully complete this enormous task without the support of donors, viewers, listeners and bidders.
