PRESQUE ISLE, Maine – At the request of the Presque Isle High School, the Presque Isle Police Department responded to the school on Friday, May 11.
“At the request of school officials, the narcotics detection K-9, Dozer, was requested to search areas of the school,” said Sgt. Mark Barnes, of the PIPD.
At around 8:30 a.m., Chief Naldo Gagnon, Officers Craig Holder and Shawn Newell joined Officer Rob Thibeault and Dozer at the school. Officer Dennis Quint, who was on the airport detail, also responded. Officers Brian McQuarrie, Larry Fickett and Brad Fitzgerald were held over from the midnight shift to assist at the high school while the search was being conducted.
“Dozer alerted on nine lockers and each was searched. No evidence of drugs was found in any of the lockers but K-9 handler Thibeault indicated that objects in those lockers may have been in contact with narcotics and may have still been giving off the odor,” said Barnes.
According to Gagnon, police do not do such searches without school officials authorizing them to do so. School officials are working closely with the PIPD to deter drug activity on or near school grounds. If anyone has information regarding the use of drugs on or near any school, contact the PIPD at 764-4476.
