MILITARY VOTING BILL

Gov. John Baldacci ceremonially signed into law earlier this year a bill introduced by Rep. Mike Willette, D-Presque Isle, that will ensure military personnel serving overseas will have the opportunity to vote by absentee ballot. The new law ensures overseas personnel are able to receive and return ballots in time to vote. The November election was the first opportunity those serving away had to vote using an absentee ballot since the law was enacted. In the photo, from left are: Willette’s wife Pam; Willette; Baldacci; Deputy Secretary of State Julie Flynn; and Rep. Don Pilon, D-Saco.
