Students get thesauruses

The third grade students at Easton Elementary School were presented with thesauruses as a gift from the Presque Isle Rotary as part of the Rotary Literacy Initiatives. Mr. Keenan, (Supt. and Principal) and Darrell White (Presque Isle fire chief) made the presentations. They also spent a few minutes with them providing information about what Rotary clubs do, explained the club’s mission of “Service above Self” and reviewed many of the projects that the Presque Isle Rotary Club has financed in central Aroostook County through their many fundraisers.

The Presque Isle Rotary has donated funds in the past towards the purchase of playground equipment at the Easton Elementary School and will be donating another $2,000 towards further playground equipment this year with funds from the annual Rotary auction. Each year a graduating student from Easton Jr./Sr. High School receives a $500 scholarship to attend college from the Presque Isle Rotary.

EPCO activities

The EPCO (parent organization) is planning to hold a Christmas Bazaar in early December. This will give elementary school students an opportunity to purchase inexpensive gifts for their family members and have them wrapped to take home. The group is asking for any crafters willing to donate items they make, or anyone with gently-used items that would be suitable for this event. Feel free to re-gift to the EPCO and leave your donation at the elementary school office, or call 488-7701 to make arrangements for pickup.
Many thanks go to the businesses and families that supported the EPCO’s annual Harvest Party. Over 125 children were in attendance at the event; pictures will follow soon.
Once again, EPCO will collect General Mills Box Tops for Education. Students are asked to collect Box Tops in an envelope or baggie with their name, grade and number of tops included. At the end of the year students who collect the most Box Tops will win a fabulous prize.

Ink cartridges and cell phones

A box in the main office at the elementary school is available to drop off old ink cartridges and cell phones for recycling.
