BLAINE – Russell D. Townsend, 92, died October 28, 2010, at a Mars Hill health care facility. He was born July 3, 1918, in Blaine, the son of Samuel and Nettie (Bell) Townsend. Russell was a hard- working dairy and potato farmer in the area for many years and was a Meals on Wheels volunteer for several years. Recently, Russell was a resident of the Aroostook Health Center in Mars Hill, where he enjoyed the many activities available for their residents. He and his family were very grateful for the wonderful care he received there.
He is survived by a son, Merlin Townsend and his wife, Donna of Bangor; a daughter, Jacqueline Garrison and her husband, Wayne of Blaine; five grandchildren, Terri Townsend, Tyler Townsend and his wife, Dionne, Andrea (Garrison) Hammond and her husband, Brent, Gregg Garrison and his wife, Heidi and Tracey (Garrison) Wright and her husband, Edward; eight great-grandchildren, Olivia, Spencer, Chandler, Sydney, Isabelle, Brandon, Anna and Tyler; a sister, Lois McCrea of Mars Hill; a brother, Ronald Townsend of Mars Hill; and a brother-in-law, Fred Kelley of North Haven, CT.
Predeceasing him was his wife, Annie Mae (Jamison) Townsend; two sisters, Ruth Pedre and Ellen Kelley; a sister-in-law, Eloise Benson Townsend; and a brother-in-law, Robert McCrea.
Relatives and friends called at the Duncan Funeral Home, in Mars Hill, on Saturday, Oct. 30, from 12:30 until the time of the service at 1:30 p.m. Pastor Lawrence Beals officiated. Interment was in the Tapley Cemetery in Blaine. Donations in his memory may be made to the Activities Fund at the Aroostook Health Center, P.O. Box 410, Mars Hill, ME 04758.
