Caravan tradition marks 50th year

The Maine-Quebec Caravan has been a Northern Maine tradition since 1957. Feb. 9, 10 and 11, 2007, will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the first caravan through the North Maine woods.

The original caravan was undertaken by a group of northern Maine businessmen and adventurers who headed due west from Ashland to Quebec City in conjunction with the Quebec Winter Carnival (the largest in North America). This year’s caravan will depart Ashland on Feb. 9, head west on the American Reality Road to Clayton Lake, cross the border at St. Pamphile and then go on to Quebec City for enjoyment of the Quebec Winter Carnival.
