Quilters to ‘Make a Difference’

Make a Difference Day quilters will be meeting at the Washburn Civic Center to put all their individual skills together to make a few quilts for those losing loved ones. Quilts will be used to help the family of terminal patients cope with their upcoming loss. One quilt, for example, has been given to a few children waiting together for their mother to pass away. The quilt signifies the “tie that binds” and is usually a great help to the survivors. This is a special project done through Hospice of Aroostook. After the quilts are delivered to Hospice of Aroostook, the families will be able to trace their hand in the center square and put five of their favorite things — one on each finger. They will also be able to decorate their quilt with drawings, names or appliqués in order to share their hopes and wishes with this special quilt.
There are approximately one dozen volunteer quilters and more are wanted. All interested sewers, cutters, ironers and others are urged to come and bring any items that will make their work easier. There will be coffee and water for tea, and those interested or who want further information may contact Mildred Bennett at 455-4054 or mbennett@mfx.net.
