Searching for truth

Searching for truth

To the editor:
Since the beginning of time, people have been guilty of not telling the truth. The Holy Bible tells us so.
Over the generations of time, there have been people who have been put in jail and prison and some executed because of lies and being falsely accused. There have been people who have had their careers destroyed due to lying. There have been children wrongfully disciplined due to lying. Some people have had to defend themselves from false charges by lying people.

During the past few years, the American people have been lied to by leaders of our churches, government, the financial world and the business world. They now wonder, where do you find the truth in a country of lying and deceit? Our Secretary of State and CIA go to foreign countries to search for the truth in dealing with the countries and their leaders. Our Better Business Bureaus, upon getting consumer complaints, start searching for the truth, but in most cases never find it.
When our government tells us how things are going in a war zone, our news media journalists go to these war zones in search of the truth. Are the American people being properly informed? When news of terrorist activity is reported, our national security people start searching for the truth to determine if the report is a fact or a rumor. When criminal activity is reported, our police and justice departments start the search for the truth. Some cases continue for years.
There are individuals who search history books and other documents seeking the truth; did an event really happen, when and where? Sometimes, the truth is found, other times, it is not.
Our church leaders preach and tell people how they must live their lives and conduct themselves to be a Christian, yet some live an altogether different life. When they are confronted with unethical conduct they try and conceal it with lying until someone uncovers the truth.
Our politicians tell us what is wrong with our system of government and that we need change and also criticize their counterparts for their beliefs and views, yet not one of them can come up with a solution to correct the problems we have. Most of the time, the solution to our problems are; we will try plan A and if it doesn’t work, we will go to plan B, etc. By the time the trial and error period is over, it is election time again and the cycle starts all over again. More promises and more lying, leaving the people with the question, “where is the truth and who can you believe?”
The business world is so full of lying and deceit, it would be impossible to list them in this letter. The truth is hard to find. Unethical conduct, greed, fraud and dishonesty have made the financial world a disgrace to the American way of life. Truth is a forgotten word.
Families and friends lie to each other, which, in some cases, causes families to break up and friends to become enemies. However, with all the lying that takes place in our lives, there are some who continually search for the truth. We have attorneys, judges, police, justice departments, politicians, news media journalists, and individual citizens, etc. Some are successful while others fail.
We all have at one time or another been guilty of telling a lie, but usually it was to keep from hurting someone’s feelings or creating problems for others. Yet, some people lie which causes great harm to others. We know that as long as life continues on the planet earth, lying will be a part of our everyday life.
The truth can make America and the world a better place to live and work. So as the world continues to turn, the search for the truth goes on. In the very near future, Judgment Day is coming and Jesus Christ will judge every person who has ever lived on planet earth. Then the truth of all things will be known, when each person will have to answer why they did, what they did and when they did it.
I would like to close out this letter with my thanks to the editor and his staff for allowing me to have many letters published in the Presque Isle Star-Herald over the past 37 years. Seldom does a person get the opportunity to express their views over such a long period of time. I will always be eternally grateful.
