PRESQUE ISLE, Maine – The students in Mary Graham’s fourth-grade class at Zippel Elementary School kept the May basket tradition going May 1.
They learned about May Day traditions including one where a May basket is hung on the door. The person knocks on the door and runs away in hopes of being “caught” by the recipient of the basket.
They delivered their tissue paper creations to the senior citizens living on Birch Street. They did not run away in hopes of being caught, but they did stop to say hello and wish the citizens a happy spring.
