Support people before politics
To the editor:
On Wednesday, Oct. 13th, a rally was held at the Aroostook Medical Center to shine light on the fact that the State of Maine owes hospitals across the state over $378 million. I was pleased to see our local candidate for District 7, Alex Willette, stand up and show his support for our local health care facility.
Health care providers in Aroostook County have suffered greatly because of the mismanagement in Augusta and our current legislature’s inability to balance the state budget. It is high time to send elected officials down to Augusta who are not afraid to make the difficult decisions necessary to balance our budget and to pay our bills on time. The Aroostook Medical Center is owed over $7 million for the care they have extended to Mainecare patients. Our state government has a solemn obligation to our hospitals so they may continue to provide the exceptional level of care the people of Aroostook County count on.
Alex Willette fought to repeal 100 new taxes this past summer, and fought to reduce the beverage tax in 2008. I am certain he will fight again to reduce the burdensome spending that is drowning our state and keeping our hospitals from being reimbursed.
Alex Willette has championed the concept of people before politics, and I am certain that when we send him to Augusta, we will be proud to say that he is our representative. In two weeks’ time, Alex Willette will most certainly have my vote and will have my support throughout his term in Augusta.
