Chase Smith: Next generation

To the editor:
Jessica Chase Smith, Republican, is running against incumbent Mike Willette, Democrat, for the Maine State House District 5 Presque Isle. Jessica, a relative of Margret Chase Smith, a business manager, and a good County girl is looking to shake things up in Augusta. Jessica offers a sensible no-nonsense approach to governance, and will not put up with hypocrisy regardless of which party it comes from.

Jessica, like Margaret, is willing to call out fellow Republicans when they are in the wrong, and is willing to listen to good ideas regardless of where they come from. For most politicians these days this is an uncommon level of integrity, but Jessica is hardly your common politician which is also why she is running traditionally financed and not adding to the state’s budget problems. She is unlike many other candidates that are taking public tax dollars to finance their campaigns by using the Clean Election system costing the state what will likely be well over $5 million this fall. Jessica feels it is irresponsible during a time when every other week it seems like the BDN has another front-page article about our state’s budget issues to use tax dollars in this way. This is yet another example of how Jessica stands up for what she believes in and for what is right, even when it isn’t in her political best interest.
Jessica is also supported by a broad base, from Conservatives, to Democrats and Independents all of whom have come to a similar conclusion to that of Sen. Susan Collins. Sen. Collins recently endorsed Jessica saying, “Jessica Chase Smith would be a terrific representative for the citizens of Presque Isle … Jessica has shown the work ethic and thoughtful approach that are critical to success in Augusta …”
This diverse and often opposed group of people support Jessica because they all agree Jessica will do right for Presque Isle and Maine. This is because she has the proven integrity to lead and to find meaningful solutions to our state’s many problems. Jessica knows first hand how seemingly nice sounding legislation can cripple small businesses. Her balanced and independently minded approach is exactly what we need to bring common sense to Augusta.
She often says that we Mainers could get our economy back on track on our own if we could just get Augusta out of the way. That is something I know she will try to do as a vocal advocate for Presque Isle. She will do more then just occasionally show up, she will get down there and fight for us. Visit her website www.JessicaChaseSmith.com and this Nov. 2nd please vote for Jessica Chase Smith for State Representative.
