ASHLAND — Sean Robertson is more than well on his way to earning the highest achievement in Boy Scouting, the Eagle Award. He has been working towards this for many years, and his work on this phase of the Eagle rank included the building of 20 picnic tables for the Ashland Fish and Game Club.

The “team” of Boy Scouts worked along with Sean Robertson in his efforts towards earning the prestigious Eagle Award, building several picnic tables that were placed at the Ashland Fish & Game Club. In back from left are: Assistant Scoutmaster Polly Libby and Sean Robertson.

Sean put his plans to paper, including the table design, the list of components needed to make the tables and a template for construction. These plans were then submitted to the Katahdin Area Council Chapter of the National Eagle Scout Association who reviewed and accepted his project proposal.
He spent several days working on visiting area businesses to have some of the supplies donated, with additional time spent shopping for everything from bolts and nails to paints and stains. Time was also spent arranging for trucks for hauling the wood and setting up a schedule for the work crew to come together to do the actual building of the tables.
On the three days the crew worked together — beginning from raw planking, through the construction process and finally reaching the finished product — it seemed that even though the work was hard, the entire crew enjoyed being together and had the building “routine” down to a science.
On one of the work days, Sean’s mom brought chips and soda for the crew’s break time, and on the last work day, Sean’s dad brought pizza and lemonade for all. Sean’s older brother Ian Robertson also lent a helping hand during one of the work days.
Sean is the son of Allen Robertson of Portage Lake and Sandra Robertson of Presque Isle. He is the grandson of John and Wilza Robertson of Portage Lake and Faye Kinney of Perth-Andover, N.B., Canada.
