MAPLETON, Maine – With beach balls and surfboards lining the stage, eight little surfer girls had fun, fun, fun April 28 as they competed for the title of 2007 Little Miss Mapleton. However, once the sportswear, talent, party dress and on-stage interview portions were completed, 7-year-old Lacy Condon was crowned the big Kahuna.
The daughter of Richard and Tammy Getchell and Troy and Bobbi Jo Condon, Lacy also received the talent award for her presidential monologue. She was escorted by 6-year-old Jesse Wortman, the son of the Rev. Roland and Tammy Wortman.
Other surfer girls who competed for the crown included:
• Gabriella Donovan, the 8-year-old daughter of Darren and Maranda Donovan. She sang “Part of Your World” for her talent. Donovan was escorted by 9-year-old Nicholas Newell, the son of Dale and Kim Newell.
• Abigayle Clark, the 9-year-old daughter of Michael and Sharmon Clark. She sang “The Cross Crosses Out My Sin” for her talent selection. Clark was escorted by Matthew McKenna, the 9-year-old son of Mark and Lisa McKenna.
• Elizabeth Collins, the 6-year-old daughter of Darren and Michelle Collins. She sang “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” for her talent. Hunter Flynn, the 7-year-old son of Robert and Jennifer Flynn, was Collins’ escort. Collins was crowned first runner-up.
• Madison Walton, the 7-year-old daughter of Heather Walton and Adam Walton. She performed a dance routine to “Hey, Mickey.” Walton was escorted by 8-year-old Justis McKenney, the son of Jay and Renee McKenney.
• Emma Langille, the 9-year-old daughter of Carroll and Jennifer Langille. She performed a jazz dance routine to “Hung Up” for her talent selection. Matthew Burtt, the 9-year-old son of Matthew and Kelly Burtt, was Langille’s escort. Langille won an award for high-ticket sales and was named second runner-up.
• Hillary Hartsgrove, the 9-year-old daughter of Diana Doody and Chris and Liz Hartsgrove. She sang “Who Said” for her talent. James Churchill, the 9-year-old son of Jim and Cathy Churchill, was her escort. Hartsgrove was named third runner-up.
• Grace Braley, the 9-year-old daughter of Glendon and Anne Braley. Braley sang “Ellis Island” for her talent. Austin Thibeau, the 10-year-old son of Kirk and Cheryl Thibeau, was Braley’s escort.
Also entertaining at the Little Miss Mapleton pageant – held at the Mapleton Elementary School – was 2006 Miss Mapleton Chelsea Kaiser, who sang “Landslide,” and 2006 Junior Miss Mapleton Whitney LaPointe, who performed a jazz/hip hop dance to the song, “Car Wash.”
2006 Little Miss Mapleton Sydney Curtis was not at the pageant to formally relinquish her title. Curtis and her family moved in March after her father, Ben Curtis, an Army recruiter, was relocated to New Hampshire.
Mistress of Ceremonies for the pageant was Patti Crooks-Parsons.
Proceeds from the pageant benefited the Mapleton Ladies Extension, which supports local community charities.
