Electronic sign
to help keep community informed
By Scott Mitchell Johnson
THIS 16-FOOT TALL ELECTRONIC SIGN will help publicize not only Ashland District School events, but community happenings, as well. The $45,000 sign is expected to be paid for entirely with private funds.
ASHLAND – A $45,000 electronic sign has been situated in front of the new Ashland District School and will be used to help publicize not only school, but community events, as well.
“It’s in a prominent spot on the main thoroughfare in Ashland, and we’ll use it to announce all of our events, and some community events, too,” said SAD 32 Superintendent Gehrig Johnson. “It’s a 16-foot tall sign, and you can see it as you pass by the school coming from either direction. It’s highly visible.”
Levesque Office Supplies donated $5,000 to the sign project, while Dead River contributed $1,000.
“In the construction project, $3,000 was allocated for a sign, but it was agreed that a larger, electronic sign would be more functional,” Johnson said. “Also the proceeds from the school auction were allocated to this project. In addition, we sent a notice out to all of our alumni for donations and their response has been excellent. Our intent is to have the electronic sign be paid for entirely with private funds.”
Donations can be mailed to MSAD #32, Superintendent’s Office, P.O. Box 289, Ashland, Maine 04732. Please mark checks “Sign Project.”
