PRESQUE ISLE — The 47th annual Maine State Firefighters Convention will be held in the Star City Sept. 10-12, with a three special guests scheduled to make appearances.
On Friday, Sept. 10, Debbie Myers will be singing in front of the grandstand, with all proceeds benefiting C.A.N.C.E.R. — a local organization that aids families affected by cancer.
“On Saturday, Sept. 11, Randolph “Randy” Mantooth — Johnny Gage from TV’s ‘Emergency’ — will be our parade grand marshal that morning. We have 42 fire departments from south of Aroostook County registered,” said Spinney. “Randy has been an advocate for firefighters since appearing in that show.”
Mantooth travels the country, making appearances to promote fire education, holding autograph and photo sessions. Following the parade, Mantooth has set aside several hours to sign autographs and have his picture taken with the public during a session at the fairground’s Forestry Building.
“He’ll sign anything you want for free or you can purchase specific items he’s brought with him from California to sign, with proceeds to benefit an organization there he supports,” said Spinney.
Spinney said the meet and greet is tentatively scheduled for 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
“Times are subject to change,” said Spinney.
Fun continues Saturday night with a show at the Forum by comedian Bob Marley.
“Bob Marley puts on a great show. We still have tickets available. Tickets are $15 each,” said Spinney.
Marley, whose appearances include “The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson” and numerous nightclubs across the United States, will take the stage at 8:30 p.m. at the Forum, 83 Mechanic St. For more information or to purchase a ticket, contact 769-0881.

THE PRESQUE ISLE FIRE DEPARTMENT had its ladder truck on display during last week’s neighborhood block party on Main Street, as well as the fire safety trailer, which is a 35-foot mobile classroom in which firefighters are able to offer real world fire prevention training in a safe and controlled environment. The department also used the occasion to promote the 47th annual Maine State Federation of Firefighters Convention, which it will host Sept. 10-12 in Presque Isle.
