Golf team opens with wins
Golfers had a hot week of practice and matches last week. The unseasonably warm weather resulted in extremely dry conditions on most golf courses, making shots roll further than they normally would. The following is a recap of recent matches played through Monday, Sept. 6.
On Thursday, at the par 36 Presque Isle Country Club, the Shiretowners lost a close decision to the host Wildcats, 156-158.
The individual Presque Isle results were: Travis Dyer 41, Jordan Hallett 41, Adam Flynn 41, Alex Tuttle 38, Evan Waddell 37, Cody Merrill 50, Matt Freeman 40 and Gabe Player 52.
Last Tuesday, Presque Isle opened its regular season with a win at Fort Kent, 176-207. Dyer was the medalist with a 39. Hallett came in with a 43 and Waddell a 46.
Fort Fairfield played a match Sept. 2 at home against Katahdin. The Tigers picked up a win with 7-1/2 match points compared to 3-1/2 for the Cougars. Billy Weissman led the way for the winners with a 44.
