PI opens with tie, Caribou next

    The Presque Isle Wildcat boys got their regular season under way last Tuesday with a tie against the defending Eastern Maine Class C champion Fort Kent Warriors. Presque Isle, impressive in going 3-0-1 at an exhibition tournament at Westbrook held over the weekend, is back in action this week as it plays rival Caribou at home Thursday at 7 p.m. before hosting Old Town Saturday at 3 p.m. 

    Summaries of games played through Monday, Aug. 30 are as follows:
    Washburn 4, Limestone-MSSM 1 – Washburn’s Kyle Huston and Limestone-MSSM’s Brandon Nadeau traded first-half goals Monday in Limestone, but the Beavers outscored the Eagles 3-0 in the second half en route to the victory.
    Mitch Worcester scored twice and Jordan McLaughlin once after intermission for Washburn, which improved to 5-1.
    Zach Davis of Washburn had 10 saves on 11 shots.
    Easton 6, Limestone 2 – On Saturday in Easton, the Bears won for the first time behind two goals each from Jared Hafford and Holden Turner.
    Jonah Bacon and Reid Clark were the team’s other goal scorers. Ian Sotomayor had an assist and goalie Cody Tompkins saved 14 of 19 shots.
    Washburn 4, Ashland 1 – Also on Saturday, the visiting Beavers dominated at the start, scoring three times, two by McLaughlin, in the first 8:07 of the game to get past the Hornets in Presque Isle.
    Kenny Tarr scored for Ashland and McLaughlin ended up with a hat trick for the Beavers.
    J.J. D’Ozier came up with 12 saves on 26 shots for the Hornets, while Davis saved four of 10 shots for Washburn.
    Wisdom 4, Central Aroostook 3 – Curtis Picard scored the winning goal with 3:38 left in the game Friday as Wisdom won in Mars Hill.
    Dan Brewer had a hat trick for the 3-3 Panthers and Spencer Stetson had an assist. Ross Grass turned away four of 22 shots.
    Fort Fairfield 7, Ashland 2 – Last Wednesday in Presque Isle, Travis Noyes had five goals and also assisted on another to lead Fort Fairfield past Ashland.
    Kenny Tarr scored both goals for winless Ashland.
    Southern Aroostook 2, Central Aroostook 0 – At Dyer Brook last Wednesday, Patrick Goodall and Jake Lassonde each scored a goal in the first half as Southern Aroostook blanked the Panthers.
      Washburn 4, Van Buren 1 – McLaughlin logged another hat trick as his Beavers bested the Crusaders.
     Presque Isle 2, Fort Kent 2 – Last Tuesday in Fort Kent, Spencer Levesque scored the game-tying goal for Fort Kent 7:01 into the second half as the Warriors tied the Wildcats, who were playing their season-opening game.
    Jonah Stephenson and Wilder York each scored for Presque Isle, both coming in the first half. Cole Richards tallied an assist.
