PRESQUE ISLE, Maine – An opening reception for poet and photographer Lloyd Archer will be held Friday, Sept. 3 from 7-9 p.m. at the Wintergreen Arts Center, located at 149 State St. in Presque Isle.
The public is invited to celebrate his opening party and other First Friday Art Walk events held that evening. Archer’s work will be on display in the Barresi Financial Gallery from Sept. 3-30. Twenty percent of all sales of work from this exhibit will be donated to the Wintergreen Arts Center.
Archer was born and raised in Aroostook County where he grew up fishing, hunting and camping. His work is inspired by the landscape and his adventures in northern Maine.
“I often write about the common little things I notice as I go along through life. It is not high-browed, philosophical stuff,” he said. “I try to see the humor in life and I hope it comes through along with the message that the Maine I know is a wonderful place to live, love and play.”
Archer has published poetry in Echoes Magazine and Our Maine Street. He has also self published several collections of his poetry and photography through his website, Blackfly Publishing (www.blackflypublishing.com).
Wintergreen Arts Center is hosting his opening reception as part of the First Friday Art Walk, which is a new cultural opportunity in downtown Presque Isle. Downtown businesses and organizations invite visitors to take a self-guided stroll through the downtown and University of Maine at Presque Isle galleries to hear live music, meet local authors and artists, and experience the heart of our community. Participating organizations include the Turner Memorial Library Gallery, Wintergreen Arts Center, Merchants on the Corner, Café Sorpreso, Morning Star Art & Framing, the Downtown Revitalization Committee, Freddy P’s, the Presque Isle Area Chamber of Commerce and UMPI. First Friday Art Walk is an event where people can meet, unwind, and enjoy the arts on the first Friday of each month between 5-9 p.m.
