WASHBURN – Galen E. Doody, 66, died unexpectedly August 26, 2010, at Dyer Brook. He was born in Washburn June 2, 1944, the son of Herman and the late Sadie (Spooner) Doody. He married Carol Curtis August 30, 1962. Galen was part of the crew that opened the Aroostook Center Mall in Presque Isle and was still employed there as operations manger, a job he truly enjoyed. He treated the employees, merchants and especially the mall customers with respect and a great concern for their well being. Prior to his employment at the Aroostook Center Mall, he was employed by Cyr Brothers in Caribou, as well as, Coca Cola Bottling.
Galen was a longtime faithful member of the Washburn Pentecostal Church, where he played the organ for many years. He was a talented musician and truly enjoyed sharing his music with many in central Aroostook, playing at countless weddings and funerals. He also played organ at the Castle Hill Advent Christian Church for a number of years. His music reverberated throughout downtown Washburn at the communities annual Gospel Concert. He always had a pocket full of M&M’s and always brought extra for the children at church, a ritual that many will remember.
Galen’s warmth, sense of humor and his love for all was contagious. He was on a first name basis with everyone and he will be truly missed by all who knew him. Not a day went by that Galen couldn’t be found lending a helping hand to someone in need. After a long day at work, he would look forward to spending time with his family and his pets. On many summer evenings, he would take his wife for a ride on his scooter.
