Kevin Baker, Jr. of Ashland, a senior at Ashland Community High School, has been selected to receive the 2007 Principal’s Award, Principal Robert Hennessey announced recently. The award, sponsored by the Maine Principal’s Association, is given in recognition of a high school senior’s academic achievement and citizenship.
“Throughout his years at Ashland Community High School, Kevin has distinguished himself in the classroom, on the playing field and as a leader in the school and the community. Kevin very much deserves this recognition and demonstrates all the qualities that make Ashland Community High School proud to call him one of their own,” said Hennessey.
Baker, Hennessey and other award winners and their principals will attend an Honors Luncheon at the Bangor Civic Center on Saturday, April 7, at 1 p.m.
The Honors Luncheon recognizes these outstanding students with the presentation of an individual plaque and the awarding of five $1,000 scholarships in the names of Horace O. McGowan and Richard W. Tyler. McGowan and Tyler were former Maine principals and executive directors of the Association.
The Principal’s Award is presented in more than 140 Maine public and private high schools by members of the MPA, the professional association which represents Maine’s school administrators.
Washingoton makes dean’s list
Cory Washington has received recognition on the National Dean’s List for the fall semester of the 2006 – 2007 academic year. To be names on this list, a student must obtain a 3.500 grade point average on a 4.000 scale and carry at least 12.0 credit hours for the semester. Washington is from Fort Fairfield.
Indiana Wesleyan University is a fully accredited, four-year co-educational liberal arts college, chartered by the Wesleyan Church.
Local students make dean’s list
LEWISTON – Two local students were named to the dean’s list at Bates College as a result of their scholastic standing during the first semester of the 2006-07 academic year.
To qualify for the dean’s list at Bates, a student must maintain a better than “B+” average for the semester, for a minimum quality point ration of 3.66. Students named include: Ashland – Alicia A. Gilman, a first-year student, is a 2006 graduate of Ashland Community High School. She is the daughter of Michael and Marjorie Gilman, Ashland; and Presque Isle – Christina D. Jones, is a senior sociology major. A 2003 graduate of Presque Isle High School, she is the daughter of David Jones, Presque Isle, and Sabine Jones of Castle Hill.
Davidshofer elected to Phi Beta Kappa
Claudine M. Davidshofer, of Presque Isle, a senior at Colby College in Waterville, was elected to membership in Phi Beta Kappa this spring. Membership in the society is one of the highest academic honors an undergraduate student can achieve.
Davidshofer, a philosophy and French studies major, was one of 47 students to be inducted into Phi Beta Kappa at Colby. A graduate of Presque Isle High School, Davidshofer is the daughter of Willian and Claire Davidshofer, of Presque Isle. The Phi Beta Kappa society, founded in 1776, restricts its chapters to leading colleges and universities. The Beta Chapter of Maine was organized at Colby in 1895.
