Extension ladies meet
On May 24, the Spragueville Homemakers Extension held their annual Spring Outing at the Mai Tai Restaurant in Presque Isle, with 15 members and one guest enjoying the meal and fellowship. Following the meal, President Tammy Wheeler held a short business meeting.
Tammy informed the group that Marianne Thomas had contacted several area businesses and nurseries regarding possible donations of perennial flowers for the Balloon Site, which resulted in a great response. A date of Saturday, June 12, was set to plant the flowers, with a rain date being June 19. Marilyn Wheeler, Joyce Bither, Marianne, Carmen Wiggins, Sylvia Harper and Tammy volunteered to pick up the flowers prior to the planting date. LaVone Walters volunteered to check on fertilizer.
A brief discussion was held on the Extension’s responsibilities at the Northern Maine Fair, with more details to be discussed at the next meeting.
Following the Fair discussion, Tammy adjourned the meeting.
On Saturday, June 12, Norma Gudreau, LaVone, Marilyn, Sylvia Harper, Carmen Wiggins, Marianne, Irma Weeks, Ann Knight and Tammy weeded and planted flowers at the Balloon Site, with much appreciated extra help/manpower provided by Ned Cyr and Lee Thomas. Those many hands accomplished much in the two-hour time span.
On Monday, June 28, eleven members and six guests enjoyed the annual Year-End Picnic, which was held at the enclosed dining area on Quoggy Joe Mountain at the Aroostook State Park. Needless to say, everyone present enjoyed the varied potluck supper goodies!
Following supper, Tammy called to order a short business meeting, followed by the recitation of the Homemakers Creed. Secretary/Treasurer LaVone Walters gave her respective reports. She also read a thank you from Rose Barnes.
Tammy read correspondence from the Caribou Baptist Church, requesting a possible donation to assist a church member, Ellie Thomas, who is planning a missionary trip to South Africa. Ellie is also an active member of the Caribou Night Homemakers Extension, thus, the Spragueville Extension voted to make a donation to assist Ellie’s worthwhile endeavor.
Marilyn informed the group that she had spoken to Chris Beaulieu, of the Recreation Department, regarding the dead tree at the Balloon Site; Chris said it would be replaced.
The next meeting of the Spragueville Extension will be the Planning Meeting, on Sept. 27, at 7 p.m., at the home of LaVone Walters. All interested ladies are cordially invited to attend.
