Three gain hall of fame induction
The University of Maine at Presque Isle recently announced that the following three individuals will be inducted into the Owls’ Athletic Hall of Fame this fall.
Peter Belskis (Class of 1974), Michelle Davis Morse (Class of 1996) and Matthew Townsend (Class of 2000) will be inducted this September during Homecoming Weekend ceremonies.
Belskis has taught physical education and has coached girls and boys soccer at Ashland Community High School for 33 years.
His teams have won six Eastern Maine titles and one state championship. He has amassed more than 250 coaching victories during his career.
Morse is a physical education instructor and resides in Eastbrook. She was a three-sport athlete at UMPI, starring in soccer, basketball and softball.
She received many post-season honors during her four-year career with the Owls.
Townsend was a basketball standout at UMPI, scoring 1,167 points during his career and also a leader in assists, steals and free throw percentage.
A former Central Aroostook High School star player who was a part of two state championship teams, Townsend also was a four-year member of the Owls’ golf team.
Townsend is now a special education teacher and coach in Scarborough.
