WESTFIELD – Verlea L. (Cyr) McCarthy, 77, passed away Monday, August 9, at the Linda Manor Nursing Home in Leeds. She was born in Fort Fairfield, Aug. 31, 1932, the daughter of the late Edmond and Isabelle (Charette) Cyr.
Mrs. McCarthy was educated in the local schools, attended Fort Fairfield High School and a graduate of Hall High School in West Hartford. She was also a graduate of the Bryant College in Smithfield, RI, where she studied business.
Verlea loved gardening, an animated game of bridge, and spent many years on the Veteran’s golf course in Springfield. She was a spirited soul who brought joy and humor to all around her. She and her husband, Cornelius J. McCarthy, who passed away in 1984, spent many years living abroad, where two of her children were born.
She leaves her sister, Helen; and loving children, Daniel, Sheryl, and Kendall, along with their spouses, Wayne and Sarah.
Funeral service and burial will be private. The O’Brien Funeral Home of 17 Clark St., Easthampton, has been entrusted with the arrangements. Memorial gifts can be made to the Dakin Pioneer Valley Humane Society in remembrance of her special friend Turbo, who gave her many happy moments before he passed in February of this past year.
