Local man recovering from broken hip

EASTON NEWS

by Debbie Smith

Clair Carter has returned home after spending nearly five weeks in The Aroostook Medical Center and the Presque Isle Nursing Home Rehab Center. Clair fell while mowing his lawn and broke his hip. He is doing well now and walking with a cane.

Their daughter, Andrea Celayeta, of Grand Junction, Colo., arrived home on July 6 to attend the Easton All-School Reunion and stayed for two weeks — a great help to her mother, Eldora, and was able to visit with her father every day. Their sons and their families — Michael and Beth Carter of Portland; Dana and Kimberly and their children, Jeremy, Emily and Molly, of Scarborough; and Wendell, of Saco, were also here for the Easton Field Days and the Reunion.
It was a great family get-together when Vaughn and Cheryl also joined them during the weekend. Son, Jeff and Sue, who still live in San Francisco, were missed but were unable to come home. Andrea returned to Grand Junction on Friday, flying out of Bangor. The following weekend, Dana returned home to check up on his father and help if needed. He left early Monday morning to meet his crew in Rockland to take down tents that were used over the weekend.

Sympathy

Our sympathy goes out to the family of Mark Plourde, a former Easton resident. Mark had resided as of late in Jacksonville, N.C. A memorial service was held for him on Saturday, July 25.

Visiting

There were lots of family members from Easton visiting loved ones over the Easton Field Days week. Mary Ellen (Hewitt) of Sarasota, Fla., and Maurice Hewitt of Florida were home to visit with their mom, Marie, and family members and also to attend the All- School Reunion in Easton. Also home was Larry Nichols visiting with his mom, Glennis Craig, and other family members. Bernie Hussey was also home to take in the activities in Easton. It’s always nice to come home to our nice little town.

Five young ladies visited the old school on the Station Road in Easton which has been undergoing renovations, with volunteers restoring it as a historic site. Pictured in front is Emmy Thompson. In back from left are: Abby Thompson, Kelsey Frank, Kristen West and Kerrigan Arnett. The girls reportedly had a blast dressing up 'old-time' and having pictures taken, resembling those of yesteryear, including serious expressions. Smaller photo is of the girls  and the schoolhouse.
