There will be a special Farmer’s Market and Flea Market Saturday, Aug. 28 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Mapleton United Methodist Church. This is to help the church youth group make a trip to Indiana where they will be attending the National Methodist Youth Rally, which takes place every four years. The local fund-raising event will be held rain or shine, and you can reserve your table for $12 by phoning Mike Eaton at 764-3762 or Lisa Reed at 493-0989.

Ride the wave

The West Chapman Advent Christian Church will be sponsoring an evening Vacation Bible School Aug. 9-13 from 6-8 p.m. for children ages 3 through the sixth grade. The theme will be “Waterworks Park … Riding the Wave of God’s Love.” There will be Bible stories, music, games, crafts and snacks each evening. Games planned involve a bit of water fun, so parents should plan accordingly. Please contact Lynn Maillett at 764-1827 after 5 p.m. with any questions or to pre-register.

Free swim

Although summer recreation activities sponsored by our towns are now over for the season, the outdoor pool will remain open until Aug. 15. There will be free swim from 1-3:45 p.m. and from 5-7:45 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays. The pool will be closed on Sundays, but is available for rent for private parties; please contact the Town Office for more details. Lifeguards on duty during free swim will be enforcing scheduled breaks at 45 minutes past the hour each hour for 15 minutes. Don’t stay at home when it’s hot, go cool off at our local pool!

Collection box

Mapleton Boy Scouts Pack 170 has placed a collection box to benefit the Central Aroostook Humane Society at the Town Office. This was established to assist the Tiger Cubs as they completed some of the requirements to move up to the Wolf Den. Items needed include cat litter, litter box bags, cat and dog food, paper towels, pet toys and treats, newspapers (what a great way to recycle old copies of The Star-Herald), towels (new or used), bleach, laundry detergent, and pet beds. The box will be at the Town Office for an extended period of time. Any and all donations would be greatly appreciated!

Mapleton United Methodist Church luncheon

The United Methodist Church will be hosting its weekly luncheon Friday, Aug. 6 at 11:30 a.m. There is no charge for the luncheon, but donations are accepted. All are welcome to attend.
