Biking camp to cater to any rider

Looking for a way to get in shape, but you’re not really certain the best form of exercise for you? How long has it really been since you’ve been on that dusty bike sitting in the garage?
County Physical Therapy locations across the county will be sponsoring exercise and wellness classes throughout the summer to promote a healthy lifestyle in northern Maine.
The first of the camps to be offered in Caribou will be a bicycle camp, which will be open for anyone, with varying levels of experience to cater to even the seasoned rider. The cycling camp will also be offering a women’s-only class.
“We want people to know they have a wider variety of choices for outdoor activities and to promote a healthy lifestyle,” said Carole Clermont, the outreach and wellness coordinator for Caribou Physical Therapy.
The camps will cover basic skills on a bike for beginning-riders. Lectures in the morning will include coverage on nutrition, training goals and bike safety for all levels; lunch will be provided in the midday; and the afternoon will be the time for practical application of the newly-discussed training information, through a guided ride.
For those in the second and third levels, the rides in the afternoon will be longer and skill appropriate. The upper-level skill attendees will also have a longer camp, from two to four days, starting week-nights from 4:30 – 6 p.m. The first-level and women’s-only groups will have a two-day weekend camp.
The dates for the first camp will be April 28 and 29, although the dates may change due to the weather. The second camp will run from May 3-6; and the third camp will be May 9-12.
Other camps will be offered throughout the summer, including a mountain-biking class, yoga, core-classes (to strengthen abdominal and back muscles) and other fun outdoor activities. Campers will receive a free T-shirt and water bottle for attending the upcoming cycling camp.
All interested campers must register before attending, and can do so by calling Clermont at 498-6334. For more information about this and future camps, visit the County Physical Therapy Web site at www.CountyPt.com.
