Speaker for the day at the Happy Days Senior Citizens’ Club meeting on May 27 was Richard Langley whose law office is on Main Street in Fort Fairfield. He spoke to the group on trusts, wills and cremation, enlightening them on things they might need to know in the future.
Langley answered many questions from the members and gave them advice. The group felt that they had been helped greatly with things they had learned.
After the speaker left, the meeting was opened by President Nina Trask in the usual manner, with the salute to the flag and the singing of “My Country ‘Tis of Thee,” with Lianna Demerchant at the piano. Treasurer Ida Doak called the roll with 12 members and two guests present. They were: Lianna and Paul Demerchant, Nina Trask, Ezalee Smith, Joann Johnson, Lois Ladner, Glenice Craig, Lindy Fowler, Arlene Ladner, Rena Richardson, Rogena Thomas and Ida Doak. Guests were Hollis Hull and Barbara Bonville.
The treasurer gave her report and told the group that she had received the annual donation from the town. The report was accepted as read. There was no secretary’s report in the absence of the secretary, Eldora Carter. A get-well card was signed to be sent to the past president, Marie Hewitt, who was in the Presque Isle hospital after having hip surgery. A birthday card was also sent to Margery Niblett.

President Mike Allen told the group that there was a training evening at the University of Maine at Presque Isle that some might like to attend. The last training was held last year in November.
The President brought up the business of getting new officers for the coming year and was having some difficulty with volunteers. He agreed to take the office for another year as did Esther Richardson, who has been the vice president. The slate of officers was accepted.
Mike informed the group of the upcoming District Convention on Aug. 19-22 in Mansfield, Mass., and that they were allowed three voting delegates as long as their dues were paid up, if anyone planned to attend. They were invited to donate to the convention programs but voted to keep their money and donations local.
They were all reminded of the chicken barbecue to be held on Thursday, July 8, beginning at 4 p.m. outside the elementary school building, during Easton’s Field Days.On the 10th, they will be serving hotdogs and hamburgers on the school grounds.
