Rotary Club
The Mars Hill Rotary Club met on Tuesday, May 25, at 6:30 at the Aroostook Health Center. The special speaker was Jeanie McGowan. She works with Project Explore as well as at the Nylander Museum in Caribou. She spoke about the geology of Aroostook County and how the area was formed many years ago.
She said we in the County live and farm on earth that is on top of rocks. There are spots in fields that don’t get planted as the rock is too close to the surface, which makes it hard to plow. Mars Hill Mountain is made up of sedimentary rock, although there is water under the mountain.
According to McGowan, there are some spots in Aroostook County that were volcanic, like Haystack, Quaggy Jo and others.
