Easton students end the year

with stage performance

EASTON NEWS
by Debbie Smith

If you missed the play “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” that the Easton Elementary School the students put on recently, you missed a lot. They did a fantastic job, all of them. It was one of the best plays I have ever been to. We have a lot of talented children in our school. Also Debbie Rooney did a great job directing, as usual. Keep it in mind for next year, these plays are excellent and so don’t miss the opportunity to take in the show.

School restoration

They are looking for volunteers to help with the restoration process of the little school on the Station Rd. in Easton. They are in hopes to get a lot done before the Field Days’ week and have it open to the public to view. But in order for this to happen they need your help. If you are interested in helping out doing a lot of odds and end jobs, please contact Richard Kneeland at 488-5311 or Heidi Thompson at 488-4991. This will be from June 6-20. You are asked to bring your own tools and equipment.

Kiwanis meets

The Easton Kiwanis Club recently met at the Odd Fellow’s Hall with 13 present. This included four from the Presque Isle club. After supper of pizza, green salad, carrot cake and molasses cake, the meeting was called to order by Easton Kiwanis Club President Mike Allen, with the flag salute and prayer by Vicki Saucier.
The business of the evening was mostly on the chicken barbecue to be held on Thursday, July 8, at the elementary school, beginning at 4 p.m., instead of Friday during the Easton Field Days, as it has been in the past. On the big day, Saturday, they will be serving hotdogs and hamburgers.
Allen also stated that the $500 scholarship from the Easton Kiwanis would go to the Senior who has done the most community service throughout the four years of high school and who has racked up the most hours.
John Graves gave Mike an invitation to the Presque Isle Kiwanis’s Diamond Anniversary Celebration which was scheduled to be held at the Presque Isle Inn and Convention Center on May 22, an evening to thank members and helpers for the many years and hard work given to the Kiwanis Club of Presque Isle.
Bernard Hussey reported on the Easton Friends Helping Friends food cupboard. He felt that they were being ruled and regulated to death as new rules requiring the shelves now to be six inches from the walls, which will mean emptying the shelves, reloading them and knowing that many items will fall down behind the shelves after they are stocked. The refrigerators will all have to have thermometers placed in them and someone has to monitor them often. He also said that they needed more help and asked anyone interested to call Vaughn Martin.
The president reported that Harold Clark would be leaving the board of Friend’s Helping Friends and that he, Mike, would be taking Harold’s place. Those attending this meeting were: Donna Lisnik; Lisa Prescott; Jim Nesbett; John Graves, from the Presque Isle Club; and Ann and Tom Osgood; Keith Richardson; Clair and Eldora Carter; Bernard Hussey; Vicki and Leo Saucier; and President Mike Allen.
