SAD 1 Adult Education holds commencement exercises

    PRESQUE ISLE – SAD 1 Adult Education commencement exercises were held Thursday, May 13. Approximately 150 people attended the ceremony. Thirty-five students received their Adult Education diplomas this year. 

    Class Marshal Alan Wilcox led 16 participating graduates into the Presque Isle High School auditorium to receive their high school and GED diplomas, accompanied by pianist Eva Ireland.
    Larry K. Fox, SAD 1 Adult Education director, welcomed those in attendance, while Scott Voisine, dean of students at the University of Maine at Fort Kent, addressed the graduates.
    Chelsie McEachern gave the invocation and Kristen Campbell-Dyer was the class speaker. Katy Schneider sang “The National Anthem,” and Schneider and Sophia Willette, both students at PIHS, sang “For Good” from the musical “Wicked.” Matt Lajoie assisted with the lights and sound system.
    An Outstanding Student award was presented to Marvin Clark, and a Student Recognition award was given to Campbell-Dyer, who also received a $500 Presque Isle Rotary Club scholarship that was presented by Jim Bubar.
    Rodney Nichols and Barry Madore received Teacher of the Year awards. A 35-year service pin was awarded to Brian Ross. Russell Gagnon received a 15-year teacher service pin. Ten-year teacher service pins were awarded to Debbie Randall and Donna Nelson. Tim Cochran and Lynn Hansen received five-year service pins.
    Fox and SAD 1 Superintendent Gehrig Johnson presented the graduates with their diplomas, while Lucy Richard, SAD 1 board chair, presented the charge to the graduating class.
