PRESQUE ISLE — This year marks the 60th anniversary of the Presque Isle Kiwanis Club’s continued efforts to provide outstanding community service. To celebrate the occasion, an anniversary dinner will take place on Saturday, May 22, at the Presque Isle Inn & Convention Center, beginning at 5 p.m.
The diamond anniversary dinner will highlight the civic organization as well as longstanding members and community partnerships, according to AJ Cloukey, 2009-10 club president.
For 60 years the Presque Isle club has been an integral part of the community, launching such programs as the Sinawik House Project, the annual Christmas Food Basket and Toy Giveaway, as well as the Talent Revue showcasing the talents of local youth. Many of the organization’s projects are geared toward providing services and making life better for children. The club also works with high school students, encouraging their participation in bettering the community they call home through their participation in the Key Club.
“In addition to that, the group has doled out thousands of dollars in scholarship money to Aroostook County youth seeking higher education,” said Cloukey.
The club also works with other groups and organizations.
“The Presque Isle Kiwanis Club has also forged successful community partnerships with Northern Maine Community College and Special Olympics,” noted Cloukey.
Cloukey said members are proud to be a part of Kiwanis and what it all represents.
“The Presque Isle Kiwanis Club is proud to have a long-standing relationship with many organizations and individuals in Aroostook County. The 60th anniversary of our club is a milestone not only for the organization itself, but also for the surrounding communities and the hardworking people who have helped the club thrive over the years,” said Cloukey.
Saturday’s celebration will also include an historical retrospective looking back at the club and how it has evolved over the last 60 years and what lies ahead for the organization. For more information about attending the event, e-mail arthur.cloukey@mmgins.com.
