Mother’s Day tea party held at Northwood Manor
ASHLAND NEWS
The ladies of Northwood Manor were recently treated to a tea party with their lady friends from the Advent Christian Church. A variety of teas, coffee and baked goods were prepared by the gals to share. It was a full house with so many good friends coming to the Manor to celebrate.
The ladies from the church even put on a fashion show for the ladies and guests with each fashion a tongue-in-cheek style such as a “tea shirt”(a T-shirt covered in tea bags), “loafers” (loaf pans worn on feet), a “stove pipe hat” (literally a stove pipe!) and “cumber-bun” (a belt with dinner buns). The show ended with “flower child” Ellie Calhoun, 3, giving each of the ladies from the Manor a beautifully potted flower.
“Lucky” Peter Martin from Portage Lake was the only man in attendance, getting an ear full of girl talk to say the least! Fun was had by all. Another great day spent with good friends. Thank you ladies of the Advent Church for bringing such joy into the lives of others.

Moms, dads, grandparents, teachers, guardians and friends … would you like to help make a difference in the SAD 32 schools but can’t attend monthly meetings? Here’s how you can help.
The Ashland Area PTO has several events coming up and volunteers are needed. A few of the planned activities requiring volunteer help are a Friday afternoon movie day for students, help decorating a float for the Ashland parade, and an ice cream social at the Open House.
As mentioned, these are just a few of the upcoming events the PTO could use some volunteers to lend a hand with. Your children attend and enjoy these fun events, so why not participate yourself? Please contact the PTO to offer your assistance.
A small group of folks are trying to get an official Portage Lake Historical Society off the ground. There is already some funding available to be used toward the historic preservation of Portage Lake documents, generously donated by the now defunct Centennial Committee. There is a meeting scheduled for Tuesday, May 25 at 6:30 p.m. at the Town Hall. Volunteer members are being sought and it would be great if you would consider being part of the Society! Spread the word to others who may have an interest in gathering and preserving Portage Lake history.
Two events planned in the Ashland area had to be changed due to scheduling conflicts. The new dates are as follows:
• If you missed the Spring Concert last night at the Ashland High School, you’re in luck! The concert is actually tonight (Wednesday, May 19) at 7 p.m. in the high school auditorium.
• The Pre-K and Kindergarten Graduation has been changed to Monday, May 24 at 6:30 p.m.
• Please note, the Miss Ashland Pageant scheduled for May 23 has been cancelled.
