Easton’s Trask elected state NHS president

EASTON — Sydney Trask may be a student from a small town but her accomplishments reach to the state level.

Sydney Trask was elected as the state NHS president at the state convention in March of this year. Sydney’s duties will begin in May when she attends the transitional meeting in Augusta. Her responsibilities will include presiding over all the planning meetings for the 2011 State NHS Convention. Sydney is the daughter of Norman and Ellen Trask and she is presently a junior at Easton Jr./Sr. High School.
“Sydney was recently elected as the state NHS president during the state convention in March,” said Pamela Murchison, Easton’s National Honor Society adviser.
Murchison said Trask will begin her duties as state NHS president this May.
“She’ll be involved in planning meetings and other NHS events,” Murchison said.
Easton is just one of several local communities with students involved in NHS chapters. Other area chapters include: Ashland, Fort Fairfield, Mars Hill, Presque Isle and Washburn.
Murchison said she’s impressed with the quality of youth participating each year in the national organization.
“The members of each chapter are extraordinary young people,” said Murchison.
She said the scope of their interaction with others goes beyond school to the communities they call home.
“These young people are not only active in their individual schools, but also donate many hours to community service, while maintaining a high scholastic average,” said Murchison.
