Mapleton native drowns in harbor

A body recovered from the water by Custom House Wharf in Portland has been identified as a Mapleton man.
The body, which was reportedly discovered floating by a pier off Commercial Street by two fishermen around 4:30 p.m. Sunday, April 11, was identified by Portland police as that of 39-year-old Todd Madore, of Mapleton.
The pier, located near the city’s Old Port District, was cordoned off while emergency personnel used the city’s fire boat to recover the body from the water. Police investigators discovered a backpack and a half-empty bottle of beer on an overlook and are trying to determine if they belonged to Madore.
An autopsy determined the cause of death as drowning. Reports indicate police don’t believe foul play to be a factor in the death.
