War is still not the answer
To the editor:
In response to the letter, “Iraq War Has Kept Terrorists Away”, I am praying that we will stop being terrorists ourselves. I pray for the “Peace of Jesus” for myself, my family, my nation and the world.
In the Old Testament, there are stories of God’s “chosen people”. When they turned their back on God and had other gods, they were invaded, killed, taken captive and their nation destroyed. Rome fell from its invasions and pagan ways. The Aztec nation of Mexico, in 1531, sacrificed their own people to the gods. In a dream, they were warned to stop or they would be invaded. They did not and they were invaded.
In America, we have other gods — lust, materialism, money, etc. We have rejected our Creator in many ways, by acting as creators and gods, rejecting life, taking life and trying to make life and spreading these ways to other nations. We were invaded, the Twin Towers destroyed, and our people were killed. Our nation needs to return more strongly to God, our Creator, His commands and ways.
I believe it is not our military power that is preventing more invasions, it the mercy of God on us. How long He will give us mercy, before His justice, I don’t know.
I don’t stand on the bridge, but I have at times to protest the war. I now go to church, at that time to pray and straighten the books. My husband does stand on the bridge. He is a disabled Korean War veteran.
On the bridge, they have had a Purple Heart-decorated World War II veteran and one man whose nephew was killed in Iraq. Standing on the bridge is my husband’s choice to speak for peace and remind others of the devastation of war.
My daughter-in-law has a flower poster in her home, which reads “War is unhealthy for children and all living things”.
Prayer, loving Jesus and all His children, I believe is the answer to stop terrorism and to have peace.
