During a recent Selectmen’s Meeting for the town of Wade, the major issue of road repair was discussed. The selectmen toured the roads in question prior to the meeting and it was noted that the Gardner Creek Road and the Dunntown Road were most in need of repairs.
Guardrails on the Gardner Creek and South Wade roads were also discussed, with Donna Turner and Nelson Ketch meeting with Brent Bubar of the MDOT and the guardrail sites were examined. Bubar assessed the areas, finding a need for guardrails due to safety concerns and sent a report to the State indicating the South Wade Road had enough room to install guardrails. The selectmen will be awaiting word from MDOT on the matter.
The selectmen were notified that a blade for the town’s backhoe will need to be replaced as well as some repairs needed for the plow truck. Winter sand prices were also looked at and discussion was held on options for a Wade Town Office, with a future decision to be made on whether to purchase or rent a building.
The selectmen noted that there are currently four unfilled positions including road maintenance person, animal control officer, tax collector and code enforcement officer.
Donna Turner was sworn in as assistant treasurer, allowing her to conduct town business pending the hiring of personnel to fill this position.
Agenda items for the next scheduled meeting of the Wade Town Selectmen include strategic planning, clear-cutting issues and a much-needed grader for the town. The meeting is set for Monday, March 29, at 6 p.m. at Donna Turner’s residence. Meetings will return to bi-weekly intervals once initial decisions have been made regarding town functioning.
